3.5. Innovations
Satellite and international technology partnerships
In 2025, Kazakhtelecom JSC expanded cooperation with international technology companies in the area of satellite communications.
With Amazon Kuiper, a Master Service Agreement was signed, determining the conditions of placement, construction and connection of the ground infrastructure of the project in Kazakhstan with the use of the infrastructure of Kazakhtelecom JSC. Additionally, an exclusive distributor agreement on the provision of satellite communications services and user equipment in Kazakhstan was concluded.
In parallel, the Company continued interaction with Starlink on the issues of the development of telecommunications infrastructure, and also the elaboration of technical and commercial models of cooperation. Based on the results of negotiations, arrangements were reached on the provision to the Company of individual telecommunications services under the Starlink project.
Organization of the L1 channel transmission service
In 2025, Kazakhtelecom JSC organized the provision of the L1 channel transmission service by Alien Wavelength technology on the basis of its own backbone optical network OTN/DWDM.
The service makes it possible to transmit the customer’s optical wavelength with the use of the existing infrastructure without the installation of additional equipment. Within the framework of the service, a channel with a frequency of 100 GHz and a throughput capacity of up to 100 Gbit/s is provided for government customers.
The “Auyl Online” project
The “Auyl Online” project is aimed at the expansion of access to high-speed internet in rural population centres and the enhancement of the quality of digital infrastructure in regions.
By the end of 2027, it is planned to provide more than 1 million residents of rural areas with access to high-speed internet. The project covers 2,991 villages, 62 thousand houses, 2,011 schools and 3,029 state institutions.
The implementation of the project will make it possible to expand access of residents of rural population centres to digital services, including online education, telemedicine and government services. The project also reduces the digital divide between city and village and creates the basic infrastructure for the development of regions.
Development of access networks and open architectures
In 2025, in the city of Qonaev, an MVP project on the testing of an optical access network on the basis of open architectural solutions with the use of the VOLTHA platform was implemented. The pilot zone was deployed in the SunCity residential complex with the connection of subscribers to internet and television services on the current tariff conditions of Kazakhtelecom JSC.
The project confirmed the possibility of integration of equipment of various manufacturers in a single network and demonstrated the advantages of open architectural solutions.
Additionally, the first stage of the development of the in-house OpenOMCI ME Stack aimed at enhancing the flexibility of infrastructure and reducing the dependence on equipment suppliers was completed. As the basis, the vendor-independent implementation of OMCI of the VOLTHA open-source project, corresponding to the latest version of the international standard ITU-T G.988 (11/2022), was taken, on the basis of which the Kazakhtelecom OpenOMCI ME Stack table was prepared.
OpenOMCI represents a single directory of Managed Entities (ME) for all OLT/ONT manufacturers and is aimed at the simplification of infrastructure and the elimination of compatibility problems. The solution makes it possible to use universal subscriber devices, operating with any OLT (with a set of our MEs) and vOMCI, which ensures independence from vendors and accelerates the launch of new services.
OpenOMCI enhances the flexibility and scalability of the PON infrastructure and expands the choice of equipment. The development of the in-house OpenOMCI ME is being conducted in the laboratory of Kazakhtelecom JSC specially created for this purpose.
Testing of network solutions
In the reporting period, technological tests of new communications solutions were conducted:
- testing of an indoor solution on the basis of the Picocell mini-station in one of the departments of the “Magnum” supermarket in the city of Almaty, where previously problems with the accessibility of communication were observed. According to the results of the tests, the equipment was successfully integrated with the network of the Kcell JSC operator, stable 4G/5G coverage was provided, and also the indicators of signal quality and data transmission speed were improved, which confirmed the effectiveness of the application of the solution for facilities with a low level of signal penetration inside premises;
- testing of fixed wireless access (FWA) solutions on the basis of 4G and 5G technologies, including the OpenRAN architecture. The tests were conducted on current subscribers previously connected by obsolete wired technologies. During the testing, the equipment was integrated into the network of Kazakhtelecom JSC, stable data transmission was ensured and the operability of the service under real user load was confirmed. Based on the results of measurements, growth of the access speed and quality of connection as compared with the existing infrastructure was registered.
The tests confirmed the possibility of application of the solutions for the modernization of the network and the expansion of broadband access.
Early forest fire detection system
The Company also participates in the project on the creation of the early forest fire detection system for the “Semey Ormany” SFNR ordered by the Ministry of Ecology.
The project provides for the installation of video cameras at 37 observation points, the construction of antenna-mast structures and the introduction of a video monitoring system with an operations management centre.
The implementation of the project is scheduled for 2025–2026.
